FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

  • Are you open during holidays?

The Extended Day program follows the board approved district calendar. We are closed all legal holidays, Moreland School District local holidays, Thanksgiving break and Winter break.

  • Can anyone pick up my child?

Students are released only to authorized persons (over the age of 18) listed in your online account. Parents are responsible for updating their pick up list and making changes. If a person is sent to pick up your child that is not on the list, we will need a verbal confirmation to release the child. All persons picking up must provide picture identification when asked.

  • Can I find out my child's position on the wait list?

We do our best to fill all available spaces as soon as they come up.  As a result, our wait list is constantly changing.  Although we cannot inform you of your child's exact position, we can let you know if they are on the top, middle, or bottom of the wait list.

  • Can I pick up my child at any time?

Yes. At this time, authorized persons can pick up a child at any time. Please notify the site supervisor or staff member if you will arrive after 6pm. Late fees will be applied to the account for any students picked up after 6pm.

  • Do I have to sign up my child for all 5 days in the afternoon?

No. Our program offers many different schedule options ranging from 2-5 days a week.  If your child is attending less than 5 days, the specific days they attend must be consistent from week to week.  Any child attending the morning program at certain sites must attend all 5 days.

  • Do you offer drop-ins?

Moreland Extended Day does not offer drop-ins.

  • Do you offer financial assistance?

Yes, financial assistance is available for families that qualify.  To determine eligibility, families must complete a School Meal Plan application.  Please email moreprograms@moreland.org for more information.

  • Do you provide snacks?

We offer a daily snack that meets our district’s Wellness policy. This includes options such as whole grain snacks, fresh fruit, and cheese. Students may also bring an additional nutritious snack from home. Students with specific allergies should bring an alternative snack if they cannot have what is offered.

  • Does my child walk over after school or will they be picked up by a staff member?

Depending upon the site, some lower grades are picked up directly from their classrooms by a staff member. Transitional Kindergarteners and Kindergarteners are always walked to and from their classrooms by a staff member. All other students walk directly over to our Extended Day site, and are expected within 7 minutes after their school dismissal time.

  • How do I change my child's schedule or drop from the program?

Families must notify the site supervisor in writing and request the change or drop through the online registration system 14 days before an effective change in my child’s current schedule. All schedule changes are subject to approval by the site supervisor. Schedule changes or a withdrawal from the program will not be permitted after May 1st. Effective dates of changes must adhere to the billing periods outlined in the tuition fee schedule.

  • How do I make a payment for tuition or any additional fees?

All accounts must have a card on file in our online billing and registration system.  On the 15th of every month your card on file will be automatically charged the amount on your invoice.  It is the parent's responsibility to make a valid card is on file at all times.

  • How do you keep children safe from communicable diseases like COVID-19?

The Moreland Extended Day program adheres to all state and county public health and safety guidelines. Program offerings may change based on the mandates. Children are not allowed to attend Extended Day if they display any symptoms associated with communicable diseases. The program also follows the district’s sick/ill child protocols. Students are required to wear any PPE mandated by the district, local and state public health departments.

  • How long can I expect my child to be on the wait list?

Time frames on the wait list varies from site to site.  Please note that a space only becomes available if a currently enrolled child leaves the program.  Once a space opens up and your child's name comes up on the wait list, you will be notified by the site supervisor.

  • How will I know that my child is enrolled at Extended Day?

If you registered during our open enrollment period, you will be notified via email by your site supervisor.

  • Is there a registration fee?

An annual non-refundable registration fee of $100 per child per school year is due upon contract approval.  The non-refundable registration fee is prorated to $50 for anyone registering between January 15th and the end of the school year.

  • Is there a time for my child to work on homework?

Homework time or quiet individual work time is offered Monday - Thursday. The amount of time for this period is related to the student’s grade level. Students finished with homework or without homework will be expected to quietly do an alternative activity. Staff are available to assist with homework, but cannot provide one on one tutoring. Staff will not check for homework completion.

  • Is there care before the first day of school?

No, our program's first date of care is the first day of school.  Our staff will be attending district trainings in the days leading up to the start of school.

  • What are Non-School Days?

There are two types of non-school days, a teacher work day and staff development day. On certain non-school days, your child’s Extended Day site will offer full day care on campus for currently enrolled Extended Day students. If a non-school day lands on your child’s contracted schedule, your child may attend Extended Day for the full day care with advance registration. For example, if a non-school day is a Friday and your child’s contract includes Fridays, they may sign up for full day care. Full day care is not available to children attending only morning care. Please see Program Calendar for full day care dates. Fees for full day care are listed on the Tuition Fee Schedule.

The other type of non-school days occurs 6 times per school year (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) during February and April breaks. On these days, Moreland Extended Day offers full day care for currently enrolled Extended Day students at one of the five extended day sites (Baker, Country Lane, EDS, Latimer, or Payne). Spaces are limited at an additional cost and advance sign-up is required. Please speak with your site supervisor for location and hours of operation.

  • What are your hours of operation?

The after school program is open from school dismissal until 6:00 pm daily. Sites with before school care are open from 7 am until school starts. The program closes early at 4PM on the day before Winter Break and on the last day of school.

  • What do I do during drop-off and pick-up?

All students must be checked in and out by an authorized person daily. We do not offer a curbside drop off or pick up option. Please contact your site’s supervisor for more information on their site’s drop off and pick protocols.

  • What do I do if my child is sick?

After notifying the school office, please leave a message on our site phone or email the site supervisor. Students absent from school for any reason or sent home from school are not permitted to attend Extended Day.

  • What happens if I cannot pick-up my child before closing?

If you are running late, please contact or email the site supervisor. All pick-ups after 6pm are considered late and are subjected to a late pick-up fee.  We also encourage all families to have additional persons to pick up their child should this occur.

  • What happens if my child does not get a spot at Extended Day during open enrollment?

If you do not get a spot through our lottery during open enrollment, your name will then be placed on a waitlist. The site supervisor will contact you once your name comes up on the waitlist. Available spaces are dependent on those currently enrolled. We cannot determine when a space will become available. Your child’s position on the waitlist does not transfer to the following school year.

  • What if my child takes medication?

If your child needs medication you will need to inform the site supervisor and provide the medication in its original packaging. This medication will be stored in a secure location at the site. All medications require a signed medication release form by your child’s doctor.

  • What is each site's capacity?

Each Extended Day site's capacity is limited and dependent on many factors such as staffing, facilities, and staff to student ratios.

  • What is Extended Day?

Extended Day is a fee based before and after school childcare program for currently enrolled Moreland School District students grades TK-6th. Before and after school care is offered at Baker, Country Lane, Easterbrook Discovery, Payne, and Latimer Schools.

  • What will my child do while attending the program?

Our programs follow a daily schedule and offer a wide variety of activities, which include hands-on STEM activities, outdoor games, arts & crafts, and homework help.

  • When is tuition due?

Tuition and/or all accrued fees are invoiced in accordance to the fee schedule. All accounts must have a card on file in our online billing and registration system. Payments are processed monthly. On the 15th of every month your card on file will be automatically charged the amount on your invoice. A $50 late fee will be charged if payment is not received by the 18th of each month. If payment is not received 4 business days after the due date, an involuntary withdrawal will take place.
